Philanthropic Giving

Philanthropic giving plays a crucial role in enabling us to reach and engage more people and support the next generation of artists. Donations from Trusts & Foundations or individuals can support the following areas of our work.

Learning & Engagement

Each year our dedicated team inspires young people through creative activities and delivers ground-breaking projects for our local communities, with a special focus on hard-to-reach young people, including young carers, looked after children, young parents, young people at risk of homelessness and NEET young people.

Learn More

Access

We believe that our diverse programme should be accessible to anyone.  Our Access Programme includes Audio Described performances, BSL Interpreted Performances, Captioned Performances, Dementia Friendly Performances, and Relaxed Performances for people with Autism Spectrum Conditions.

Artist Development Programme

The Lowry runs an established programme to develop the future creative talent of theatre makers in the North West.  From Studio Members, offering a programme of creative masterclasses, seminars, scratch opportunities, and free rehearsal space right up to our Associate Artist Scheme, providing cash investment and professional and artistic development.

There are lots of ways to support The Lowry’s charitable work.

Every year we run a Christmas Appeal to support activity with a certain group of young people through our Learning and Engagement work.

You can choose to leave a Legacy to celebrate and remember someone in a special way.

Many of our supporters have Adopted a Lowry, Named a Seat or attended a Special Event to support the work we do.

Or you can simply Donate Now and help the work we do.

Adopt A Lowry

Whether it is a personalised gift, a way to mark a special occasion, or a place to share your own stories and memories, Adopt a Lowry places you alongside one of Britain’s most loved artists.

Choose from a breadth of work including beautiful sketches and drawings, prestigious oil paintings and even some of Lowry’s belongings.

What’s more, The Lowry is a registered charity and your adoption will help to ensure our Galleries remain free and accessible, so everyone can enjoy them for many years to come.

By adopting a Lowry you will become part of the world’s largest LS Lowry collection.

In recognition adoptees receive the following benefits for a year:

  • A special ‘Adopted’ label next to your chosen artwork proudly displaying your name
  • A personalised Lowry adoption gift pack including adoption certificate
  • An invitation to visit the LS Lowry archives with our LS Lowry Curator to get a real insight into the collection
  • Invitations to all of our Gallery Private Views, giving you the opportunity to see our exhibitions before they open to the general public

If you have any questions or would like to talk about adoption further please contact Lee Pringle on lee.pringle@thelowry.com  or 0161 876 2162.

T&Cs: Adoption of the work does not constitute ownership. Due to the delicate nature of some works, they may not be on permanent public display for the full year adoption. At these times of ‘rest’ and during any periods of conservation, The Lowry will notify the adopter to discuss other ways to publicly acknowledge the adoption that satisfy all parties. This will not affect benefits and the work would still be able to view in the archive by appointment.

Valerie Hamill's Story

“I discovered that the gallery had an Adopt a Lowry scheme to help raise funds to preserve, restore and display the Lowry collection. This is how I came to adopt the Wreck at South Shields 1961 which brought it out from the stores and back on display. I had a very interesting escorted tour of the Lowry archives and stores.

The Curator was extremely interested in my reasons for selecting this work and in February an unveiling of the work was held at the Gallery, a copy of my photo displayed on the wall next to it explaining my sponsorship.”

I’ve been an admirer of Lowry’s work all my life – and I remember going to see the wreck of the Adelfotis as a child. To think he was there somewhere at the same time, sketching away, is exciting – and when I heard there was a chance to help preserve his work by adopting this drawing – I didn’t hesitate. It’s a beautiful piece and to have the chance to see it up close has been a real treat.

Legacy Giving

We believe that visual arts can transform lives. Every year, over 820,000 people visit The Lowry to see awe-inspiring theatre and some of the world’s most recognisable artworks.

By remembering The Lowry in your will, you are providing crucial funding and support, which will enable us to enrich more people’s lives in the future.

There are many ways you can make a gift including money, assets, or a specific gift such as a work of art. Whatever the gift, or the size, your legacy will help to ensure that future generations will enjoy The Lowry as much as you have.

How to leave a legacy

Leaving a gift in your will is an effective lasting contribution without any immediate outlay. Legacies left to The Lowry are free from inheritance tax, which means a legacy could result in your tax bill being reduced.

As your will is a legal document, we recommend that you discuss your wishes with a solicitor when drawing up or amending your will.

Please donate all legacy gifts to The Lowry Centre Trust, registered charity number 1053962. To acknowledge your support, we will name a seat in our Lyric Theatre after you.
