OVERVIEW

The Lowry’s Artist Development Programme is one of the most innovative and respected initiatives for artists and companies in the UK. Since 2009 we have been developing a nationally visible profile as a leader in the field of artist development, championing this as an area of specialist practice that is crucial to ensuring the health and vitality of the arts sector and encouraging the development of a national understanding of best practice.

We nurture talent and provide bespoke pathways to present bold, dynamic and innovative work to audiences and visitors not just at our home in Salford, Greater Manchester but at venues across the UK and internationally.

We value investment in people rather than projects, building long-term, bespoke relationships with makers which don’t start or end with a performance or exhibition, and instead focus on long-lasting, strategic support.

We prioritise support for artists currently under-represented in the sector including those who may be marginalised due to their age, sexuality, gender identity, ethnicity, disability status, religion or belief, socio-economic status, caring or parental responsibilities. We prioritise access within our planning, budgeting and processes so that our opportunities and activities are accessible to all.

Artist Network

Artist Network is a free, open access scheme for those who work or aspire to work creatively within the arts sector.

Developed With

Developed With is a 12-18 month programme supporting dynamic artists and companies to create and present a new production or exhibition and develop their practice through bespoke mentorship and support.

Partnerships with mid-career artists who want to tackle the challenges of our industry as well as developing their practice.

Live Now Commissions

LIVE NOW supports artists to pivot into making work for digital platforms, paving the way for a new type of performance to sit within The Lowry’s programming.

New Earth Academy

The only course of its kind in the UK, NEA provides free specialist training opportunities for East Asian and South East Asians based in Salford & Greater Manchester.

CTRL

Creative Technology Research Labs is a new development programme for digital and creative technology artists of the future.

New Earth Academy+ - Salford & Greater Manchester

In partnership with New Earth Theatre, New Earth Academy+ is a new development programme for East Asian and South East Asian performers and theatre makers based in the North West of England.

GM Artist Hub

GM Artist Hub is a network of 13 organisations across Greater Manchester who collaborate to support independent practitioners, artists, and companies in our local area.
